Laurent Fignon

Sad news today. At just 50 years of age, Laurent Fignon has lost his battle with cancer. The story of how he lost the Tour by 8 seconds far too often obscures the fact that he won it twice.

No one was a junior partner at the Battle of Britain

Our Eton educated Prime Minister was obviously wagging when his history lesson concerning 1940 took place. So Dave, if you happen to read this please take the time to also remember that as we commemorate them today, the numbers who were awarded the Battle of Britain clasp for having flown at least one authorised sortie with an accredited unit of RAF Fighter Command is as follows:

Great Britain - 2,342
Australia - 32
Barbados - 1
Belgium - 28
Canada - 112
Czechoslovakia - 88
France - 13
Ireland - 10
Jamaica - 1
Newfoundland - 1
New Zealand - 127
Poland - 145
Rhodesia - 3
South Africa - 25
United States - 9

Summer

While I'm enjoying something of a summer break, if the weather would only improve, I've decided to try and stop the rubbish spam I'm getting sent every day. Sadly that means only members can contact me through the blog at the moment.
