Let's protect the public, not the rogues.

Understandably here in Wrexham at the moment, there are a lot of food hygiene concerns. Of course we all send our thoughts and prayers to those suffering from the awful E.coli O157 outbreak, but we need to be doing more to prevent such problems occurring again and again.

It really is time we took a hard line with those who blatantly flout the rules concerning food hygiene. It simply isn’t good enough to rely on local press and gossip to spread news of a particular establishment that has failed to meet decent standards. Colleagues of mine on the bench have sat on public health cases involving the foulest of kitchens in local food retailers and after colossal fines, there is simply no record appearing for the public to be made aware that eating at such venues is potentially dangerous and life threatening. Details of those who are prosecuted should be made known to the general public. If that means damn great notices displayed prominently advertising the fact that such and such premises are filthy and disgusting then so be it. Who are we protecting here? The public or a few unscrupulous rogue businesses!
